Mariposa Animal Hospital

Lenexa, Kansas

This animal hospital was the first commercial building in the area to utilize straw-bale construction. Other 'green' features include a 10-inch thick insulated roof panel, exposed laminated wood-beam ceiling, paints with low volatile organic compound, cellulose insulation made from recycled newspaper on the interior walls and stained concrete floors. Landscaping consists of native plants that help conserve water and a series of rain gardens planted with native sedges provide storm water retention and treatment.
